About Us

At Haven, Every Dancer Belongs.

Our Story

Haven School of Dance was founded in 2021 by Megan Gordon, whose passion for dance education began early. Megan started teaching dance in Pueblo as a teenager in 2003, launching a small dance program at just 16 years old. After her first studio closed during the 2020 pandemic, she was determined to create a new home for dancers. With the support of family and friends, Megan established Haven School of Dance as a community-centered, non-profit studio dedicated to sharing the joy of dance with everyone. In just a few years, the school’s warm reputation has led to rapid growth – over 500 students enrolled in one recent semester. To accommodate this excitement, Haven now offers classes at multiple locations in Pueblo, Pueblo West, and even nearby Penrose, bringing dance within reach for more aspiring performers than ever.

In recognition of our community impact, Haven has received several accolades:

- In 2024, we won Best of Pueblo awards for “Best Place to Dance” and “Best Dance School.”

- Community votes also honored us with Platinum in both the Art and Enrichment Programs and Dance Lessons categories in 2024, and in 2023 we received Platinum in Art and Enrichment Programs along with Gold in Dance Lessons.

- Our creative spirit has been celebrated further by awards for our float in the Colorado State Fair Parade (twice) and the Fiesta Day Parade.

Our Mission

“Our mission is to create a safe Haven dance experience – accommodating all students regardless of skill level or physical ability.”

This mission guides everything we do. We believe dance is for everyone – from toddlers taking their very first steps, to teens and adults exploring new styles, and including individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Every class is designed to be a welcoming space that nurtures confidence, creativity, and a genuine love for dance in each student. By focusing on inclusivity and encouragement, we strive to make sure that every dancer who walks through our doors feels supported and inspired to do their best.

Our Core Values

At Haven School of Dance, a few guiding principles shape our culture and programs. We are proud of our warm, welcoming atmosphere and our commitment to each dancer’s growth as both an artist and an individual. Here are some of the core values we live by:

Inclusivity: We celebrate diversity and welcome all students, regardless of age, experience, or physical ability, making sure every dancer feels included. From our tiniest beginners to our most seasoned performers, everyone has a place in the Haven family.

Affordability & Access: We firmly believe that every dancer deserves the opportunity to pursue their passion without financial constraints. As a non-profit organization, we’re dedicated to offering high-quality dance education at a cost that fits every budget. Beyond affordable tuition, we actively support our students through a robust scholarship program and regular fundraising events—ensuring that financial challenges never keep someone from experiencing the joy of dance.

Quality Instruction: Our teachers are passionate professionals who bring years of experience to the studio. We maintain high standards of technique and dedication, while still making classes fun and encouraging, so students develop discipline and confidence alongside their love of dance.

Supportive Community: Haven is more than a school – it’s a family. We foster a warm, safe environment where students support one another and instructors truly care about each dancer’s well-being. We frequently go the extra mile with personal encouragement and scholarships to help every child shine.

Creative Expression: We encourage each dancer to explore their creativity and express themselves. With a wide range of classes – from ballet, tap, and hip hop to Irish step and even worship dance – students can discover many forms of dance and find what they love.

Community Partnerships: We believe that strong community ties make for a richer dance experience. We regularly partner with local organizations such as the Pueblo Library District, Pueblo Mall, the Chili and Frijoles Festival, and the Pueblo Lantern Festival. We also collaborate with the local special needs community by choreographing for events like Dancing with the Starz, and we host classes in local churches to deepen these community connections.

Empowering Future Educators: We are committed to training the next generation of dance teachers through our class assistant program. This initiative pairs aspiring young instructors with established professionals, ensuring that the art and passion of dance are passed on to future generations.

Every one of these values reflects our belief that dance should be a positive, uplifting experience for all. At Haven School of Dance, we are committed to creating a warm, welcoming, and inclusive space where students not only learn to dance, but also build confidence, friendships, and lifelong memories.
